Plant Enzymes |
10-15% of your
body’s production of
enzymes is lost every
10 years of life.
Shouldn’t you replenish It?
What are Enzymes
Enzymes are fundamental to all
life and are found in all living cells. Without them life itself would not
exist. They are the driving force behind virtually all biochemical process
that take place in nature and in our bodies. In nature they are responsible
for fruit ripening, seeds sprouting and trees growing. In the body they are
amino acids that link together and become the catalysts of life that are
necessary for all metabolic functions. We would not be able to digest our
food, grow, breath, move or think without the help of enzymes.
Where Do Enzymes Come From
Your body is an enzyme factory
with limited production capacity. Living foods in their natural state
contain the very enzymes that we need to digest them. Dr Edward Howell, a
biochemist and leading authority on enzymes, proved that cooking and
processing of our foods destroys their natural life-giving force: the
natural enzyme content within the food.
When we consume cooked,
processed denatured foods they cause our internal organs to strain and
eventually degenerate as they work harder to digest. If the enzymes are not
present in the food the body spends excessive amounts of energy producing
digestive enzymes to break down the cooked, processed foods. Stealing
enzymes from other parts of the body to finish digestion and using up vital
energy that is needed for growth, maintenance, repair and defense against
disease.
Why Take Enzyme Supplements
Everyday living puts a
tremendous demand on our body’s enzyme supply. Cooked and processed
foods, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pesticides, chlorine,
fluoride, colds and flu, stress and strenuous exercise are just a few of the
things that cause your body to be robbed of enzymes on a daily basis.
Because of this almost everyone would benefit from enzyme supplementation.
By adding enzyme supplements to
your diet it helps to control the constant drain on your enzyme levels.
If these enzymes are not used immediately they are stored by the body and
used when they are needed.
How Enzymes Aid in Digestion
Despite the specific foods that
we eat our diets can be categorized into proteins, carbohydrates, sugars,
fats and fibre.. Specific digestive enzymes break down each of these
into smaller components.
Protease and Peptidase:
Breaks down protein into
amino acids so undigested proteins do not reach the bloodstream. This is
very important for building and repairing muscles (especially the
heart). As essential as amino acids are to building of muscle, tissue and
organs, a protein buildup in the body has been linked to decreased libido,
clogged arteries, joint problems and free radical damage.
Amylase and Sucrase: Breaks
down sugars, starches and carbohydrates into usable energy in the body.
This break down is essential for today’s high-carbohydrate diets which
include a lot of hard to process junk foods.
Cellulase:
Helps to break down fibre and
helps in the absorption of hidden
nutrients from fruits and
vegetables. Even if you are eating a high fiber diet the fibre will not
benefit your body unless the fibre is broken down.
Lactase:
Breaks down lactose found in
dairy products. A vast majority of people after age 3 are dairy intolerent
which leads to gas, diarea, constipation or discomfort after eating cheese,
ice cream, milk and uncultured dairy products.
Lipase:
The Fat Digester. Fats are
essential for good health. However, there are fats that heal and fats that
harm. A lipase deficeincy results in only a partial breakdown of fats
which can cause the formation and deposit of nasty triglycerides, and
cholesterol which get deposited in the arteries.
Alphagalactosidase:
Helps to break down complex starches such as bean starch and starches found
in starchy legumes.
ChicolinTM
: Is a food substance or
a plant extract derived from the whole tubers of the Chicory plant. It is
one of the richest natural sources of low molecular weight sugar, called
Oligo-saccharides or Oligo-fructose or Inulin. A low molecular weight
sugar, indigestible to humans which behaves like fiber.
Oligo-saccharides pass through the digestive system unchanged and slow the
absorption of sugars, until they reach the large intestine. There, they are
selectively and intensively utilized by the bifidobacterium, more so than
any other type of bacteria, therefore promoting
the growth of the “good”
bacteria in the intestinal tract. The slower absorption and more prolonged
release of the carbohydrates, both in normal and diabetic individuals,
translates into lasting energy reserves for extended periods of up to 10
hours with constant blood glucose levels. This effect also has great
promise for appetite suppression, weight control and athletic performance.
Fennel Seed Powder:
In many cultures to this date chewing fennel seeds is a favorite way to
stop gastric rumbles after the ingestion of a meal. Fennel seed or an
infusion of the seeds is a great after dinner drink for flatulence,
indigestion, abdominal pain, colic and other digestive upsets.
Ginger:
A hot dry herb, traditionally used to warm the stomach and dispel chills.
Ginger relaxes peripheral blood vessels, promotes sweating, prevents
vomiting, soothing to the stomach and increases blood flow to an area.
Combined with plant enzymes it settles the stomach and acts as a carrier of
the digested nutrients .
How To Take Enzymes:
Take one capsule with or before a meal. For heavy meals may take an
additional capsule midway or immediately afterward.
Enzymes are heat sensitive , it
is advisable not to take with hot drinks or soups. You can take the
capsules with water or open them and sprinkle the contents on the first bite
of food or in water. For children, use one capsule or less.
